We are all doing very good around here. Mike goes back to work tomorrow and I am very sad about that. It has been so great having him here. I have owen in the wrap right now which is so great. He loves being in it. People have been asking about his birth story so I will try to get it written as well as possible. I am not a writer so hopefully it comes out ok :)
I went into labor at around 7:30 in the morning but wasn't sure it really was labor. I had strong contractions but they weren't evenly spaced. I called our midwife at around 9:30 am and she said she would be here in about an hr to sit with me and see if I really was in labor. I called Mike and let him know everything but told him not to come home yet because I wasn't quite sure. After our midwife got here she confirmed I was in labor and I called Mike and told him it was time and to come home. I had very easy labor until around 4:45. I had the midwife check me and I was 4 1/2 cm dilated. How wonderful that I was the one to say "will you check me?" and not have 20 different nurses checking me every 30 minutes!!! After she checked me I decided to get in the birthing pool. I was immediately relaxed and didn't have a contraction for what seemed to be 5 minutes and then things got really intense and really painful. All I could think was I have to get out of here!! I really thought birthing in the water would be great for me but I think it relaxed me too much and made the pain even worse. I got out of the pool and had her check me again. It was 15 minutes later and I was 9 1/2 cm!! No wonder I was in so much pain, lol!! The other midwife and her student, who is a postpartum doula, came right before I got into the tub also and my friend Chrissy right before that. I kneeled beside the bed and pushed Owen out 20 minutes later. I didn't realize that I had only pushed for 20 minutes, I though it had been at least an hour. On the way out Owen sucked in some of the fluid and when he came out was lifeless and not breathing. I couldn't see anything because I was facing the bed and he was behind me but everyone kept saying it was gonna be alright. They massaged him and suctioned out his mouth and he started breathing. I nursed for a few minutes but is was so painful because I hadn't delivered the placenta yet. It caused such bad contractions I kept almost dropping him. After about 45 minuted I still hadn't delivered the placenta they gave me homeopathics, tea's, and herbs to try to make it come out. I even tried nursing again because that causes contractions. Almost 3 hours later they gave me pitocin as a last option before they took me to the hospital. I decided to go sit on the toilet to see if that position would work better. 5 minutes later it came out :) I was so happy I could finally hold Owen and nurse him. The delivery of the placenta was by far worse than the pain of the birth.
